8 Week Well Visit

Today was Bowman's 8 week checkup with Dr. Cabiness. Everything went well, and we were very happy to discover that he had MORE than made up for the weight lossed when he was sick. Bowman was happy to perform for Dr. Cabiness; many smiles were seen and coos heard. My little man is much bigger than I'd anticipated:

Weight: 12 lbs, 10 oz (83%)

Height: 23.5 inches (92%)

Head: 41 centimeters (94%)

Unfortunately, this well visit also required 4 vaccines...3 shots and 1 oral. Bowman did really well and only cried for a few seconds. It's nice to know he won't have any memory of these pokes! Now, let's hope we don't have to go back to the doctor until his 4 month check up!

Christmas Day 2008

Christmas Day was so much fun this year...I had so many pictures to share that I thought putting them in a slideshow would be the easiest thing to do. Thank you to Grammy and Pop-Pop for a WONDERFUL holiday!

Christmas Eve

Each year we spend Christmas in Columbia (or Chapin to be more exact!) with Craig's parents. Since this year's weather was exceptionally warm, we started off the day by going to the new playground at Crooked Creek Park. Aunt Leslie and I took Porter, who had a wonderful time in the pirate ship and tackling the slides. The pirate ship was definitely Porter's favorite "toy." He kept referring to all of us as pirates, and even enjoyed pointing things out on the treasure map.

Porter also had a GREAT time playing with Aunt Leslie. Since she lives in New York, we only get to see her a few times a year. She hadn't been home since September, but Porter recognized her immediately. They played together all week, and Porter is already asking when she'll be coming home again!
When we got home from the park, Uncle Jonathan, Aunt Anna, and Maylee were at the house from Asheville. Maylee is only 2 years older than Porter, and they actually get along pretty well...minues the occasional argument over a toy! Craig's parents hosted all of us for a yummy dinner. After dinner, Aunt Leslie read a holiday must to the kids..."A Night Before Christmas." Gotta love their faces!!!

After the story, it was time for the kids to put on their Christmas jammies and to "hang their stocking with care." Porter was so excited about Santa coming, and was convinced our stockings were extra pairs of the big man's boots! He told everyone who would listen that Santa was coming to his house with presents...too cute!
Craig's brother Jonathan helped Porter hang his daddy's and Bowman's stocking

The final act of the night was to get a cute cousin pic under the tree. This is easier said than done...when one would sit still, the other was on the move. But I think we ended up with one good pic:

Oh, I promise Bowman was part of all these events...he just tended to sleep through most of it. But, Grammy helped make sure he was included in the cousin pic...too bad Porter and Maylee were too busy doing other things!

Bowman: 8 Weeks

It's hard to believe 8 weeks has already gone by! You've changed so much in such a short period of time. And, WOW, how you've grown; in fact, some of your 3 month clothes are already too small!!! Your sleeping has become pretty regulated. You go down for the night between 9 & 9:30 pm, wake at 1 am to eat, and wake again at 4am. You're usually ready to be up at 6 am, but don't seem to mind snuggling with mommy in bed for another hour. You can definitely sleep through anything...I think having a 2-year-old brother helps with that! The big transition this week was moving you from our room to your own...and you did it with no problems. Though you're still sleeping in your bassinet, you don't seem to mind these new surroundings at all...much to mommy and daddy's delight!
You got to meet your Aunt Leslie this week, and weren't afraid to show her all the funny faces you make. You are a very cuddly baby; you love to be held but also don't mind hanging out in your swing. In fact, you are pretty agreeable wherever you are...unless it's time to eat! Then, you have a one-track mind and aren't happy until you're getting some food. Bottles are still a struggle, but you and daddy are working on that. He gives you your "after dinner meal" and you have become a little more agreeable with it.

You are one chatty baby! When you are awake, you coo almost non-stop! I have a feeling you will be much like your older brother...talking will become one of your favorite activities. It melts my heart to hear the little noises you make, and I know it will only be a matter of time before those noises begin to sound like consonants!
You've also gotten really good at smiling. You have the cutest dimple on your left cheek (a little gift from your Aunt Leslie perhaps??) There also seems to be one on your right cheek, but I only catch glimpes of it when your smile is huge. I'm still having a hard time catching these grins on camera...but I know I'll get one soon!
Bowman, you are a very sweet baby! Daddy and I count ourselves lucky that you joined our family and seem to just "go along with the flow." It's hard to believe how quickly the time has gone by...it's days like this that I wish time would standstill.
We love You, Baby Bo!!!!!

Baby William

Yesterday, while Grammy watched Bowman, Porter and I went over to the Barksdales to meet the newest member of their family: William Sanders. William was born on the 12th, and I was so glad to finally meet Sarah's new little man. He is adorable; actually resembles his older sister. He has a ton of dark hair -- more hair than my kids have at a year :) Even though Bowman is only 7 weeks old, William already seemed so tiny to me...it's amazing how quickly they grow! Sarah is doing well, and everyone seems to be adjusting to this addition! Visiting with William also gave Porter an opportunity to play with "Manda." The weather was beautiful, so we headed down to the park where the kids ran around for about an hour. Sarah and I commented how nice it was to just let them run and play. Amanda and Porter play together so well and, unless we hear tears, we don't really get involved with their adventures. After the park, Sarah made a yummy lunch for both kids...and they got to eat at Amanda's new table and chairs. We decided to take a picture of them on their "first date"...it will be perfect to display at their rehearsal dinner :)

Playing Cowboys was next on the agenda...Porter insisted on wearing the PINK hat (don't know what his dad will say about that...HA!)
We had a fun morning with Sarah and her family. We count ourselves lucky that our children will all grow up together and hopefully will become the best of friends. We enjoyed meeting William, and know that he and Bowman have years of fun ahead of them!

O Christmas Tree

Finally, after way too long, Craig & I dressed the boys in their Christmas jammies and decorated the tree last night. I was interested to see how Porter would react to this activity, and I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised. He was amazed with every ornament he saw, and was eager to help as much as he could. Bowman even seemed to enjoy this family time; his smiles are becoming more and more common. Of course, they still seem to come and go faster than my camera can catch them...at least I was able to capture this smirk. Too cute!
I tried to get some family pictures before things got too crazy. Sadly, this is the best we could get...at least Porter looks adorable!!!

Porter lovin' on his baby brother....Bowman looks a little concerned!

Porter loved seeing all the ornaments. Though most of his ended up in the same area of the tree, I was thrilled with his excitement. That's what Christmas is truly about!

Finding the perfect spot...

There we go!

This picture is the epitome of a child's excitement this time of year. Christmas is truly a holiday for our kids, and I look forward to spending many more with my precious boys!

A Tree Lighting

An annual tradition at LMC: the children from the daycare gather in the hospital lobby to help light the big Christmas tree. They learn special Christmas carols for the occasion, and local media even attend the "show." Though Porter didn't really sing along with the group, he did clap at the appropriate times AND sat through the entire performance. Such a difference from last year...he cried the whole time! Porter showing off his handmade shirt. His class made reindeers to help designate them from the other classes. (Note the little red-haired boy in the background...that's Porter's bestbud LIAM!)
Finding his spot!

Amanda Barksdale's not too sure about her debut!

Porter...in a sea of children!
